It depends on what is wrong, not on the office
The honest answer is that the number comes from the exam. A single facet joint that locked up over the weekend behaves nothing like a disc that has been bulging for a year. Any office that quotes a number before examining you is quoting its business model.
Here is what Dr. Frank tells patients on visit one, by condition, so you have a baseline to compare against.
Typical visit counts
These are typical ranges for patients who follow the plan. Your exam can move you inside or outside them.
- A joint that locked up (acute back or neck pain, no leg or arm symptoms): 1 to 3 visits.
- Everyday back or neck pain that has been building for weeks: 4 to 6 visits over two to three weeks.
- Sciatica from a stuck joint or a tight hip: 1 to 3 visits.
- Sciatica or arm pain from a disc: 4 to 8 weeks, usually two visits a week at first.
- Whiplash after a car accident: 6 to 12 weeks, gentler and more frequent at the start.
- Arthritis: 4 to 6 visits to get the pain down, then optional maintenance every few weeks.
How to tell an honest plan from a package
An honest plan has a checkpoint. Dr. Frank sets one at visit three or four: if you are not measurably better, the plan changes or you get referred out. A package has no checkpoint, because it was paid for up front.
An honest plan is also front-loaded. Most improvement happens in the first two weeks, so visits are closer together early and spread out fast. A plan that is three visits a week for twelve weeks with no taper is built for the office, not for you.
Why more visits early is not a red flag
Two visits a week for the first two weeks is normal for anything beyond a simple locked joint. A joint that has been stuck for months wants to go back to being stuck; early repetition is what keeps it moving until the muscles adapt. The red flag is not frequency. It is frequency with no end date.
What happens after you are better
Some patients come back every four to six weeks because they feel better when they do. Some never need to. Dr. Frank does not sell maintenance; he tells you what he would do in your shoes and lets you decide.
